Its hardly surprising that women in the music industry have just as tough a time as women in any other sector....

There is nothing to suggest in the history of music that somehow this particular creative sector would have a better record on sexism, exploration & discrimination than any other part of our social economy.

Its always been a 'boys club'... so not sure this report will prompt any concerted action, but at least we cannot say we didn't know.

@ChrisMayLA6 I believe there’s also a class distinction. Anecdotal stories that point to privately educated people learning instruments and are more likely to know people who know people as it were. Or have parents that do.

yes, that has also been detailed in research - see recent findings publicised here & elsewhere on the class make up of the creative industries & associated artists

@ChrisMayLA6 @francis speaking only for local NZ context, this kind of work has resulted in concerted efforts by sector towards safer and more inclusive professional environments.

Not there but doesn't feel hopeless.
