Have to admit, I feel kind of bad for Richard Stallman. Dude just wanted some recognition for all the effort he put in that made Linux possible, and he became a meme instead. Truly, the Internet knows no mercy. :/

@Angle Do you actually know if he wanted some recognition? Everything I read about him seems to have pointed to the cause, which made the memefication worthwhile in the first place.

@hypolite I mean, it seems pretty obvious? He went about it poorly, but his statement was clearly a 'Hey, I helped with this too!' kind of thing. Is there an article you'd share that points otherwise, or something?

@Angle No, it's a general sentiment, but I'd be interested by a quote where he does mention personal recognition rather than hammer the free software point or, unfortunately, dismiss Epstein's underage victims and defend child pornography.

@hypolite Eh, maybe not personal recognition, but given that GNU is something he put so much effort into, wanting recognition for it and wanting personal recognition are pretty closely aligned. I wasn't aware of the latter bits, but those are certainly poor choices, yeah. :/

@Angle @hypolite

I tried to read his biography and decided after a chapter or so I didn't like him or want to read about him.
