Why are people celebrating this. Is it just me who feels really uncomfortable about the fact that they spent hundreds of years trying (almost successfully) to wipe out our language, and now they're just using it?? https://twitter.com/BelTel/status/1652335217162563585
Last night I was travelling in dreams.
Everywhere I went there was enough of everything you need and you could go anywhere you wanted. People were happy. I was happy.
Then I woke back to this stupid hell and it broke my heart.
We’re asked to forgive. I know the privately educated fools have no understanding of the rest of us or how we survive.
There will be a reckoning and I hope we can find it in our hearts not to pay back in the same coin.
But we’re dying every day while they sing hymns to their capitalist god.
It’s a bitter harvest.
We’re told to accept being poorer
200,000 dead from austerity - the transfer of wealth from poor to rich as assets increase in value
300,000 and counting from the virus we have to live with now. Corruption, venality and incompetence aided by abstention of opposition.
How, then, do we accept children with no food, adults starving in the streets? Why should we?
We should be chasing our tormentors with nooses instead of sitting on our hands.
For anyone who assumes Britain’s exclusively two-party system offers a binary choice between a conservative party on one side and a progressive, socialist-leaning party on the other, Starmer is proof that they have been misled. https://www.middleeasteye.net/opinion/uk-labour-starmer-ambition-nastier-nasty-party
@EU_Commission How about we start with not racially profiling EU citizens at EU borders first?

Thoughts?
@zimpenfish hmmmm
If you’re counting or using the small end of numbers you might get that. Lower ordinal numbers appear more frequently for obvious reasons.
'In the coming days, there will be endless commentators ready to declare that the coronation makes them “proud to be British”, while anyone who criticises any aspect of it will be accused of “hating their country”.
I have never quite understood the mindset that feels more pride in producing Prince Andrew than the welfare state'...
Frances Ryan is absolutely right; lets celebrate the #welfarestate not a bunch of rich parasites

Just out of curiosity, has there been any actual innovation in AI for years? All I can see is the same old crappy discrimination algorithms, but with more computing power, I mean, so what?
You can steer a car in the sunshine, so what if it rains?
I find myself wondering, what are folks getting so worked up about? Where is the innovation? Where is anything that’s actually not a rehash of something that is at least 20 years old?
There’s nothing new here that I can see.
Starmer says he’s against PR. I told you ages ago. https://bylinetimes.com/2023/04/27/keir-starmer-now-opposes-scrapping-westminsters-voting-system-for-pr-in-blow-for-reformers/
Oh, sorry. I shouldn't simply assume that folks beyond Britain are aware: In case you missed it, the UK government - led by a fucking billionaire as prime minister - are withholding investment in care for people or the environment yet sparing no expense to hand their friends huge uncontested contracts for made-up services; to criminalise, terrorise, and kick down doors of disabled people on welfare; to condemn asylum seekers to death and deportation; to maintain a massive military industrial complex; to spy on and control their own citizens; to cozy up to other fascist governments; and to create culture wars for their next bigoted, fear mongering reelection campaign designed to manufacture moral panic bullshit.
This is also the kind of thing you do when you have money, but no boots on the ground. It shows how much they lost to the Greens in my local area.

@francis never forget that Starmer now claims it to be his party. There are many instances of him calling it his Labour Party on camera while being interviewed. It used to be democratically run, not anymore.
Francis. Old guy in the corner. Socialist, maybe even a (shock) Marxist. Can't stop writing. Musician. Coder for over 30 years.
