Hey, you can say the UK needs to train more doctors and nurses without throwing NHS workers who trained abroad under the bus. Easy.

Mastodon may not replace Twitter, but at least it has better leadership.

Meet Eugen, CEO of Mastodon Social:

This is awful. An insult to the many Irish, Jamaican and so many others without whom the NHS would have crumbled decades ago. Displays such ignorance of the history of the NHS and its workers. twitter.com/jrc1921/status/158

The UK now has the worst health system in Europe.

In 2011, the UK had the highest ranked health system in the world.

It took them a decade to destroy our NHS.

"We’re coming to the end of the line, here. There’s nothing left for working people in the rich world to sell off or promise away."

@PaulbernalUK The public square now requires a ticket for entry - is that free speech?

And what Musk seems to be suggesting is a purely curated timeline, with his ‘blue’ accounts getting priority. Algorithmically curated timelines aren’t free speech. They’re controlled speech.

Okay let’s give this thing a go.

In my column on Friday, I highlighted the shocking fact that Britons now have the worst access to healthcare in Europe, and this is causing worsening health

*1 in 6* UK adults needed medical examination or treatment in the last year but were unable to access it (due mainly to waiting lists), higher than in all 35 other European countries

At #Twitter Inc. we love charity. We live in a world where not every person is born with the same opportunities in life, and some people lack what others have.

Therefore we will start deducting 5% from our employees' salaries, to pay for our dear CEO Elon #Musk's frequent hair transplant surgeries.

That's not to say complaints about UX are wrong. Nor that we should be cavalier about the barriers created by jargon. Rather, I just wish people were more willing to fight for and build an internet for people and communities, not an internet that is fundamentally a billionaires sandbox.

For me, it's not that Mastodon is perfect or even good, per se, it's that it's worth fighting for.

So it seems that trolls of the Trumpist frozen peach variety, mostly those who set up their own Pleroma instances when Parler got taken down, are undertaking a semi-coordinated effort to target journalists who sign up on Mastodon for a couple of reasons...

* Trump has taught them that professional journalism and critical thinking are elitist and bad so lets harass them until they go away

* they are trying to prove some sort of point that this place can be just as toxic as their beloved Frozen Peach in Chief's microblogging site

If you are a journo and you get dogpiled by trolls DO NOT ENGAGE with them at all! Immediately:

1. REPORT them to your instance mods, THEN
2. Block them

Step 1 is very important! This isn't twitter or facebook...mods will take swift action, and if they don't you can migrate instances to better moderated ones...

I can't see how many followers I have, I use a glitch feature to turn that off, and in my head it's about 50, so I can just talk about whatever. I know it's a lot more. But it's 50. Ok?

That is my only feditip: Try out all the mental health options. Groups, individuals who make you feel uncomfortable? Mute them, you can do it on a timer. Use silences. Topics that get under your skin? Use filters. Feel like you're starting to have to perform? Turn off fave/boost notifications. Something just makes you sad? Can't keep up with your reading? Getting buried in replies? Use lists. Turn off notifications from people you don't follow, use locked and unlisted posts, leave a note on your profile explaining that you appreciate comments but don't often have the bandwidth to reply. Do whatever makes you happy and healthy.

A lot of the advice floating around is from people trying to say just that, or help you see the ways your behavior can adapt to help preserve it for others. But start with yourself, please, it's your world.

They are going to make them twice as relevant. I’m sure the advertisers are going to LOVE hearing how badly targetted their money is
