Only in Britain could an obscene Tory regime oversee 200,000+ Covid deaths, and then herald it a roaring success. Sick, twisted bastards who delight in people suffering and grieving. Eton Virus @BorisJohnson said he wanted "Bodies piled up high". Evil and disgusting beyond words.

Can’t get too excited about this thing.

There are two possible outcomes, both of which leave the country in the hands of some flavour of horrendous fucking twat.

"This idea that anyone can ever be an impartial arbiter of objective reality is logically fallacious and is invalidated by facts in evidence."

@polevaultpower So to get that straight: in order to protect my daughter from extremely unlikely sexual harrassment by a trains-kid, we make a law that forces sexual harrassment on all girls who want to play sports?

When you're posting hashtags that contain multiple words, it's a good idea to capitalise the first letter of each word. This helps blind people who use screen reader software to know what the hashtag actually says.

For example #DogsOfMastodon is much easier for screen reader users than #dogsofmastodon, even though they're technically the same tag.

This kind of capitalisation is usually known as "CamelCase". CamelCase doesn't just help blind people, it also makes hashtags clearer for sighted people too!

Using CamelCase won't affect your post's visibility (because searches ignore capitalisation) but it will improve the post's accessibility, so you'll get more people reading it.

Thank you to @martyn for raising this topic 👍

@FraserNelson Because they don't pay enough?

Why should people be forced to work for pittance?

I love how people on shitter and REEEEsetera are noticing the big problem with centralizing a community around Discord.

The problem with Discord/Reddit is on one hand the same problem with Yahoo Groups/Answers/Tumblr/etc, or 8chan if we want to look at this section of the internet. Being centralized means that you are toast when a big tech company sees you as not profitable, or it gets shut down for some reason.

But it has other unique problems. Maybe you got banned, or a user involved wipes all his posts because he rightfully hates Reddit's moderation, or a group ends up self censoring to stay happy with Reddit's moderation (which is never enough if mobs come for you), and whatnot. Discord groups also vanish easily when drama happens or there is a chat schism and it's harder to archive.

Here's a personal Discord story I tell people on why forums are better. Some guy I used to know ran a big Discord server for some microgenre of music and eventually during the Summer of Floyd drama hit because the mkultra signal went out everyone was looking for a quick cancel. Some guy in that scene gets canceled for making fun of SJWs years ago (no really) and drama blows up in the server. The server admin takes many rational approaches like banning people, whining about it, whining about how people deserved it, was just happy Kiwi Farms didn't notice this drama (because the trolls might start noticing the scene he was in and laughing at it for a week), and finally suicide baited and threatened to delete the server.

That's right, because of drama in the scene the server owner was threatening to delete his Discord server and kill himself. Imagine how much info would be lost if he actually did it. I'm sure people left said server from his outburst too.

This is why Discord groups are bad hubs for a community.

It says so much about the state of western academia that it's treated as a major scandal if university professors don't unquestioningly regurgitate what their government says about international affairs. And it says so much about British state media that this article was written. twitter.com/BBCWorld/status/15
