Same thing happened when the futures markets were liberalised a while back.

They became an investment vehicle for the already wealthy and prices went through the roof.

Chinese growth was blamed, but it was profiteering. There's a chapter about it in Taibbi's book "Griftopia".

I recently read the "customer is always right" comes from Selfridge - and it's missing the other half "the customer is always right in matters of taste". As in, I might think that hat looks terrible on you, but if you wanna buy it, fine. So when people quote it, remember, it doesn't mean you have to be a doormat. It means the customer can buy whatever they want - fine - you don't have to take crap from them.

The Greens have done well where I live.

They show up, talk to us, reply to emails, and don't treat the job as a sinecure while it would appear the local developers get what they want without being questioned.

It's not hard. It's also how the LDs rebuilt their base back in the day.

I don't call myself left - that would mean joining in with Mason's delusional crap. greenplenty.substack.com/p/don

If you're depressed because @Keir_Starmer @ShabanaMahmood @AnnelieseDodds and others have turned around Labour's machine, and made some spectacular gains, ask yourself why you're still calling yourself "left"... you can be critical and happy at the same time

Labour literally handed Liverpool over to the Conservative government because they saw an opportunity to suspend local democracy, and have since expelled a group of councillors for opposing cuts.

RT @BareLeft
Not gonna single out Jack Monroe, but this sadly doesn't contend with the fact that many Labour councils and councillors actually agree with Conservative austerity ideology and have dutifully carried it out over the last decade without any real resistance.

Local elections: polls predict Tories could lose 550 seats, or 750 if Boris Johnson goes on GMB again.
