Trump is demanding to be tried by a jury of his peers. Now it's a just a question of finding a kindergarten full of psychopaths.

Y'all told me Andreesen was smart, Thiel was smart, Rabois was smart, Musk was smart, they have all outed themselves as lucky and dumb. You need to stop assuming being rich and being smart are the same.

New phone time ... the 13 is almost the same phone but with 5G. Got something back part ex, but not a lot. Apple pay had stopped working and I thought going down the 3rd party route would probably not work. Better to get it recycled for parts.

The funeral was sweet and funny.

The church required us to go down and cross a stream and back up again to get to it.

Coffin came in on the back of a tractor across the farmer's field. Family sat on hay bales as it was moved back to the road for the cremation. She would have been laughing her head off in the rain.

Gonna miss her.

Off to the Apple shop. Phone got run over. Still works but the flicker and the blank corner makes it a little hard to use.

The very first citation in this stupid letter, futureoflife.org/open-letter/p, is to our #StochasticParrots Paper,

"AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity, as shown by extensive research[1]"

EXCEPT

that one of the main points we make in the paper is that one of the biggest harms of large language models, is caused by CLAIMING that LLMs have "human-competitive intelligence."

They basically say the opposite of what we say and cite our paper?

France in Flames

In #France, a powerful movement has erupted in response to an attempt to raise the retirement age. While millions have gone on strike and poured into the streets, President Emmanuel Macron and his henchmen have attempted to crush this movement by escalating police violence to lethal extremes. In this report, we offer a chronology of the events of the past week, including a translation of an account by one participant in the movement and a statement from the parents of another who remains in a coma.

This is an important graph. The share of national income going to the richest 10 percent was lowest (and share to lower 90 percent highest) when union membership was at its highest. As unions have weakened, inequality has widened. It's not about economics. It's about power.

No matter what the papers might tell you today, tomorrow, and across the rest of this week, Paul and Lily were not comfy characters; they were fighters open.substack.com/pub/brokenbo

Off to the south coast for the funeral of an old friend. 7 hours including breaks.

"I'm a capitalist" - you have a patreon, sweetie. If you were a capitalist, and not some simpleton defending capitalism, you wouldn't need one.

Every time some fkwit tells me that AI will write better code than I do.

It's not writing the code, that's maybe 10% of the job

The other 90% is understanding what people actually want and then making sure it's properly tested

Back in the early days they used to call just rewriting bad processes "paving the cow paths"

Nothing has changed

The current crop of AI blx will give you super fast cow paths

Good luck with that

I just saw a post from a "sovereign individual" type

Oh, dear me

The state has a monopoly on violence, sweetie, it doesn't need your permission. No amount of stamping your foot can change that. Educate yourself a little, eh?

You absolute fraud @Ed_Miliband You were smeared as an antisemite too, * and* you lost a GE. You know as well as we do this is factional warfare, against socialism. And now you're *using* antisemitism as a weapon. Shame on you, you coward

Why would I support a Labour Party that supports Thatcherism?

RT @unionlib
I don't want the government to "crack down" on homesless people, I want the government to house them. Why do we allow these chinless cousin fuckers to invade our society with their born to rule fascism.

Inflation caused by shrinking work force due to early retirement. Not the half a million EU workers who left due to Brexit. Nothing to do with Brexit. Brexit was a great success. #UKPolitics
